Piquet, a three-time World Champion, has always been rated as one of the best Formula One drivers ever since he retired.

The former race car driver had a brief tennis career before losing interest in the game.

He then turned to karting while concealing his name to save his father from learning about his pastime.

Then, from 1971 to 1972, he held the title of Brazilian national karting champion.

In 1976, he won the Formula Vee championship.

Piquet traveled to Europe on the recommendation of Emerson Fittipaldi in order to increase his success and surpass Jackie Stewart’s all-time record for Formula Three victories in 1978.

Piquet raced for McLaren and Brabham in the same year and made his Formula One debut with the Ensign team.

He switched to the Brabham team in 1979, where he placed second in 1980 before taking home the title in 1981.

Piquet eventually joined the Benetton team for the years 1990 to 1991 after competing in a number of races, and there he was able to win three races before his retirement.

Piquet spent two years competing in the Indianapolis 500 after leaving Formula One.
