Deborah G. Heilizer, 54, a partner at the Washington law firm of Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan, died April 7 at George Washington University Hospital.

The cause was pancreatic cancer, said her husband, Keith Weissman.

Ms. Heilizer, a Bethesda resident, was a director and senior counsel at the investment bank Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown in Baltimore for three years before joining Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan in 2005. She was part of the firm’s securities litigation group.

Earlier in her career, she was deputy assistant director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s enforcement division.

Deborah Gail Heilizer was a native of Rochester, N.Y., and a 1980 graduate of the University of Chicago. She was a 1985 graduate of Northwestern University law school, where she was executive editor of the law review.

Ms. Heilizer was an associate at a law firm in Chicago before moving to the Washington area in 1991.

Her professional awards included recognition as a top lawyer in securities litigation by Best Lawyers, a peer-reviewed legal publication. She also was editor of a Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan quarterly publication, Partnering Perspectives.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Keith Weissman of Bethesda; three children, Roxanne Weissman of Arlington and Gregory Weissman and Raphael Weissman, both of Bethesda; her mother, Judith Hess Heilizer of Madison, Wis.; her father, Fred Heilizer of Chicago; three sisters, Ruth Heilizer of Alexandria and Rachel Heilizer and Miriam Navin, both of Madison; and four brothers, Anthony Heilizer of Arlington, Jeff Heilizer of Beloit, Wis., Glenn Heilizer of Madison and Tim Heilizer of Highland Park, Ill.
